Connecting with the Rotherham Community
FGB Rotherham recently took the opportunity to connect with the local community by having a stand at the Rotherham Show. Held at Clifton Park on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September.
The Rotherham Show is Rotherham’s biggest free community festival, bringing together thousands of people. For a weekend of music, entertainment, sport, food, family activities and horticulture events. The 2026 show was the 46th edition of the popular event, with the park providing a vibrant setting for people from across the borough.
For FGB Rotherham, the weekend provided an excellent opportunity to step outside the usual meeting environment and meet people within the wider community.
200 Gift Bags Given Out
The FGB Rotherham team gave out around 200 FGB gift bags during the weekend. This provided an opportunity to introduce people to FGB and start conversations with visitors.
More importantly, the team estimates that they spoke with between 50 and 60 people during the event. Each conversation provided an opportunity to build a connection, listen to people and share something of the heart and purpose of FGB. Planting Seeds and Building Relationships
For the FGB Rotherham team, the weekend wasn’t simply about handing out gift bags. It was about planting seeds.
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9
Many of the conversations provided an opportunity to make new connections and begin relationships that may develop further in the future.
That is an important part of FGB’s vision: creating opportunities for Christians to build relationships with people in their communities. To share the difference that faith in Jesus Christ can make.
You never know what may come from a single conversation. A brief meeting at a community event can be the beginning of a friendship, an invitation to an FGB meeting, or simply the opportunity for someone to hear an encouraging word at the right moment.
A Weekend of Community and Celebration
The Rotherham Show provided a wonderful setting for these conversations. The event is designed to celebrate the people and communities of Rotherham, with the 2026 programme encouraging visitors to explore different areas of the park and enjoy a wide variety of activities.
FGB Rotherham’s presence meant that the Christian community was also represented among the many organisations and groups engaging with visitors.
Taking the Gospel Beyond the Meeting
FGB is about Christians coming together to encourage one another and finding opportunities to share their faith within their communities. The Rotherham Show provided FGB Rotherham with a valuable opportunity to do exactly that.
With 200 gift bags distributed, 50–60 conversations taking place and new relationships beginning, the team can look back on a very positive weekend.
Please pray for the seeds that were planted during the weekend and for the new relationships that have begun.
