Leaving behind China & Communism
Simon grew up in China, studied hard and became a top chemical engineer for the Chinese Government.
Simon came up with a process that could revolutionize industry, but there was nowhere in China to complete the research. He managed to find a UK company to sponsor him to further his research, and Bradford University agreed to facilitate his research.
Everything was going well until the Tiananmen square massacre in 1989. Where the Chinese government made a brutal crackdown on the pro-democracy protesters. The protest was led by students calling for political reform, freedom of speech and an end to government corruption.
Then the Chinese government stopped all student travel. As he was going to university in UK his chance at research seemed to fade, stuck in China unable to return to continue the work he’d started. Until he was sent by the Government back to the UK to complete a project. However, when the project was complete, he remained in UK without government approval. Scared to return to a Communist country where the brutal massacre had left his mark.
The Accident
Simon was all set to start his research when his sponsors pulled out. He found himself working in a pizza shop to make ends meet. It was a long way off from the life he had planned for himself.
Setting off to work one day, he was hit by a car travelling at speed. Simon flew into the air, then sending him onto the bonnet and through the windscreen. Finally landing unconscious in the passage seat.
Waking up in hospital, in pain with his body aching. The police came to see him they began explaining what had happened, but he could tell them!
During the accident he left his body, and was above the accident. He watched the paramedics, and the police as they got him out of the car. He knew exactly what had been said around him. Despite being unconscious he could recall it all.
People are more that just Chemicals
The problem being as a child of communism, you are just a bag of chemicals. There is no other dimension, no spirit and no afterlife. Now having had first hand experience of the separation of body, from the soul and spirit. It made him question everything.
Simon was told it was a miracle he was alive. Now he had to lay in hospital, he couldn’t work. He could not return to China as he would be arrested.
Looking in his bedside cabinet he picked up a Gideon bible. Opening it, the bible fell open at Matthew 6:34.
"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
This is what he needed to hear, so he read on. Six weeks later when finally discharged from hospital, he had read the bible all the way through a couple of times. Then it all made sense to him.
Simon had a Brazilian friend from university, who took him to a Christian house group. He quickly fitted in and became part of the group, the church and the Full Gospel Businessmen.
Since then Simon has worked to export UK products to China.
Simon has two sons, that have been raised in the UK. This oldest son is a top Auditor at HSBC international. The other is finishing at Manchester College of Music, and is a gifted pianist.
Simon is till a member of the FGB and attends local and national meeting regularly.
